The Most Common Issues Found in New Construction Homes 

Buying a new construction home is exciting—everything is modern, clean, and untouched. But even brand-new homes aren’t perfect. With multiple subcontractors, tight build timelines, and rapid neighborhood development in areas like Bryan–College Station, mistakes can slip through the cracks.

1. Improper Roofing and Flashing Installation 

Roofing errors are some of the most frequent issues found in new builds. Even small mistakes can lead to leaks and expensive repairs later. 

Common roofing problems include: 

  • Incorrectly installed flashing around chimneys, vents, or valleys 

  • Improper shingle placement 

  • Missing sealant 

  • Poor drainage design 

Since these issues aren’t visible from inside the home, buyers often don’t know something is wrong until water damage appears making early inspection critical. 

2. Electrical System Mistakes 

New construction doesn’t automatically mean perfect wiring. In fact, electrical issues are extremely common. 

Inspectors frequently find: 

  • Incorrectly wired outlets 

  • Missing GFCI or AFCI protection 

  • Misplaced or mislabeled breaker switches 

  • Loose electrical connections

  • Missing insulation around duct lines

5. Missing or Poor Insulation
